Description

Back when it was founded in the year 1936, it was originally named the Parrot Island. Not only that, it was also considered to be the only zoological park in the Miami area. Over time, this park developed alongside the city, and in 2007, it was renamed Jungle Island. Fast forward to the year 2016, and this park spans almost 22 acres. You’ll be able to find almost every kind of animal that you can possibly think of. Starting from different kinds of wildlife and birds, to a liger which weighs 900 pounds – they’ve got it all. If you don’t know what a liger is, it is an animal which is a cross between a tiger and a lion, but don’t just take our word for it, see it for yourself!

Since this park is located on such a massive expanse of land, it is divided into different segments for different types of animals. One part, which is known as the “Winged Wonders” is an area which has been especially dedicated to different kinds of birds. Starting from flamingoes, the cassowary, and the king vulture, you’ll be able to experience it all. The “Serpentarium” is an enclosed location only for reptiles of various kinds. They have even managed to exhibit some rare and dangerous ones. Therefore, if you feel that you are brave enough to face your worst nightmare, only then should you venture into this region.

Jungle Theater:

In addition to various kinds of exhibits, you will also find a separate place known as the Jungle Theater. It is in this place that the park seems to host shows of various kinds. Even though the main theme remains the same, you will find yourself enjoying it to the fullest. Not only that, but you would also be surprised at how much these shows actually have to teach you. It offers something for both adults and children alike.

Lastly, being a zoological park, Jungle Island undertakes certain initiatives in order to protect the environment. They feel that it is their duty to make some contribution to make this world a better place to live in. Some initiatives include attending carbon credit conferences and supporting non-profit organizations.
